DONNA B. TRENT Gig Harbor, WA. 98335 email donnatrent@donnatrentart.com double click on spaceilto:donnatrent@donnatrentart.co BIOGRAPHY: Artist Donna Trent grew up on a Skagit Valley farm in the Pacific Northwest, near Mt. Vernon, WA. She is a graduate of Seattle University, where she was awarded a BA in psychology, and an area major in art. She has since studied under several well-known artists, and considers her painting as an on-going challenge of practical on the job learning. Donna has continued her studies at Balboa Park, San Diego; Tacoma Community College; Coupeville Arts Center, Whidbey Island; Santa Fe, N. M.; and Morro Bay Calif. She has taken workshops from Ned Mueller, Nancy Rankin, Bob Landry, Joyce Pike, Howard Carr, Eric Wiegardt, Charles Movalli, Ann Templeton, Bill McEnroe, Susan Ogilvie, Bill Reese, Ben Konis, Kitty Wallis, Anne Heywood, Bob Rohm, Richard McDaniel, Richard McKinley and Doug Dawson. Alla prima plein air painting is most satisfying for the artist, when there is a limited time to capture with scene in the available light and this quick method also gives her paintings a lively feeling of expression. She also finds great satisfaction working from live models for portrait and figures. She comments that still lifes are becoming an interesting and challenging subject for studio painting during the winter days. She works well in several media, including watercolor, oil, pen and ink, pastels, charcoal and clay sculpture. The artist resides with her family in Gig Harbor, and spends many hours sketching and painting the Harbor and surrounding areas. ARTIST'S
STATEMENT: Painting with oils and pastels allows me to put down on a painting surface wonderfully brilliant colors, and contrasting values. Using broad strokes with smaller textured lines gives my work a tension and a lively quality that one finds in nature. Painting plein air allows me to interpret nature as a glowing complex scene of shapes and colors intermingled. Excitement is transmitted from the eye to the hand to the painting. When one views my paintings I hope they can feel the emotion and excitement that emanates from the flat surface of the painting making it into a viable three dimensional work of art.
